Program Assistants:

What are Program Assistants?

Program Assistants help deliver the CanSkate program under the direction of the CanSkate Coordinator and certified Coaches.

What is the role of a Program Assistant?

  • Demonstrate and teach skills under Coaches direction
  • Supervise practice sessions
  • Lead warm up and cool down exercises
  • Reinforce learned skills
  • Lead exercies, drills and games under Coaches direction
  • Hand out awards under Coaches direction
  • Be a role model for the younger skaters

When do I start to participate?

  • 12 years of age or older and in Junior StarSkate level or higher
  • Under 12 years of age with recommendation from Coach

What kind of training will be required?

  • Mandatory attendance to one off ice and one on ice training session
  • Coaches will provide instructions and handouts on an ongoing basis as required

How are Program Assistants Rewarded?

  • Club volunteer hours - initial 20 hours are considered volunteer for the club. 
  • Club Credits - earned for PA hours (after one-time Club volunteer hours fulfilled) and used for expenses incurred within the club (i.e. ice time, club wear, test fees, etc)
  • High School Volunteer Credits - PA hours qualify for the volunteer High School Program in Ontario. Club credits can NOT be earned for these hours.
